Coronavirus Sketchbook Prompts!
Hey guys! I am so sorry we are not meeting together!! Here are some fun ideas and prompts that you can do while you are at home to keep your creativity flowing!
Sketchbook building tutorial (if you want to make one or make one for another member of the family)
Now things to put in your sketchbook!!!
1) How many circles can you draw??

2) Drawing with extra long arms

6) ZENDOODLE
This next project can been made more simple for younger kids but below are some examples of zen doodle patterns!
1) draw a block letter and split it into 7 sections or split your paper into 7 sections
2) Pick 7 different zen doodle patterns from below to replicate in each section ( you can also look up your own patterns online)
3) Have fun with it make it peaceful!

Now things to put in your sketchbook!!!
1) How many circles can you draw??
Draw 12 circles Fill each circle with a different object that is a circle! -examples -soccer ball, basketball ball, eyeball, fruit, bug etc.
2) Drawing with extra long arms
- Collect sticks, rulers, or other long things
- tape a pencil or crayon, to the end.
- Tape paper to the wall, or put it on the floor,
- Draw holding the end of the stick away from the paper as if your arm was really long.
Materials:
-paper
-yard sticks/ sticks/ or ruler
-pencil -tape
Also look up Joan Jonas an artist who paints with a giant paintbrush!!!
3) Draw 5 of your favorite things.
-pick 5 of your favorite things
-draw each one by looking at it closely not by memory
4) Blind drawing
Have two partners sit back to back. Have one partner be the describer of an object or still life and the other one be the drawer. The describer will explain in vivid detail an object or person they can see. The drawer cannot turn around and see it, but must draw only from the describer’s instructions.
Materials:
-Paper
-object to draw
-pencil
5) Blind contour portraits
draw someone else or yourself in a mirror
Three RULES
NO looking at the paper or
NO lifting up your pencil. ( one continuous line)
DON'T worry about what it looks like
After you try people try your backpack or your hand.

7) Michelangelo Style Drawings
The great master Michelangelo was an expert at painting from below. You can practice this technique he used while painting the Sistine chapel by taping a piece of paper to the bottom of a table Lay on the floor below and practice drawing. Another non-traditional way to approach drawing is to have the students draw with different parts of their bodies, such as drawing with their elbows, knees, or toes.

Here is a link to a great site that provides step by step drawing videos. Remember, you can follow the tutorial exactly, but it would be EVEN BETTER if you alter the idea to make it your own concept. (Adding a unicorn horn to a turtle tutorial for example.) These videos are a great starting point, but I would LOVE to see you turn them into something even more interesting!
